Well, let's just say 2018 didn't go as planned for either me or Scene Radio. At the beginning of the year we had many plans to push the station forward, to grow, to reach into the LGBT community with media opportunities and great programming.
What went wrong?
In reality nothing went "wrong" but life had different plans for those involved with the station which in turn impacted directly on the station. In January, Jordan McShane, James Graham and I sat and talked of all we wanted to achieve with and for Scene Radio, with the upcoming pride season all seemed well. in 2018 Scotland had more prides planned than ever before. Then in May, the world shattered. Jordan who was just 26, suddenly and without warning died. The impact on James, myself and all of Jordan's family and friends was devastating. Everything was on hold, plans that had been made were set aside. I lost my partner. Even now writing this 7 months later, it all feels like it was just yesterday.
Despite the lack of live programming and the prerecorded shows that were airing before Jordan's death, we have managed to keep Scene Radio going, even if the stream has been mainly music. Of course the exception to that has been James Smith (Mr Fabulous) who has persevered with his live show on most Mondays since.
James Graham and I have plans to push Scene Radio forward. James submitted a document outlining plans for a Scene Radio Blog, with our new steam host and integrated website (radio.co), that much has now been realised. Also in the document were outlined plans for a Scene Radio YouTube channel and the possibility of registering Scene Radio as a charity with OSCR. The latter plans will be closely looked at in 2019.
Scene Radio also plans to be present at and broadcasting from as many Scottish Prides as possible throughout 2019. Scene Radio also wants to fill the schedule with live programming and presenters.
YOU can help.
Scene Radio currently has a fundraiser running on to purchase a new mixing desk which I have placed below. We also want to hear from anyone who would like to be a presenter, We also need to find a person to be our fundraiser. Is any of this YOU? if so get in touch. As for donating, whatever you can afford will be received with great gratitude.
For now, I wish you a very merry Christmas, a peaceful and prosperous new year.
